Live Nation’s Stunted Summer
Although Live Nation’s Hyde Park summer has been cut short because it’s one of the chosen venues for Le Grand Depart of Le Tour de France, LN U.K. managing director Stuart Galbraith can look back on it as quite a success.
Hyde Park Calling (June 23-24), the last of this summer’s Live Nation shows, pulled 65,000 across the two days and left promoter Toby Leighton-Pope very happy with the way it had gone.
"Stuart and me and everybody involved are all very pleased because it’s the best run we’ve had so far, although we’d have obviously liked it to have gone on longer," he said.
The weather failed to ruin the show, with bands playing on through the sometimes torrential rain that affected Hyde Park Calling and Wireless Festival.
The acts on Leighton-Pope’s Hyde Park Calling included Peter Gabriel, Crowded House, The Feeling, Aerosmith, Chris Cornell, Buena Vista Social Club and Joe Satriani.
