Mass Town Meets Mohegan Backers
The Mashpee Wampanoag tribe is negotiating with the town of Middleborough, Mass., in hopes of building the state’s first casino in the financially strapped town.
The tribe is backed by Sol Kerzner and Len Wolman, the billionaire developers of the Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville, Conn., according to the Boston Globe.
The tribe reportedly needs the backing of the governor and likely the state legislature, but is already sweetening the pot with the city, offering Middleborough at least $11 million a year to have the casino.
