Good Neighbors
One hundred percent of the net concert proceeds from the couple’s July 27 show at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum in Biloxi will be donated to their Neighbor’s Keeper Foundation. The city and surrounding area were devastated in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina.
Hill, who is from Star, Miss., and McGraw said they’re trying to draw attention to the ongoing plight of people on the Gulf Coast.
“It is a long term, continuing struggle for so many people in the region,” the couple said. “This year we are focusing attention on the needs of Mississippi.”
Neighbor’s Keeper was established in 2006 by McGraw and Hill to assist adults and children deprived of basic humanitarian services or programs, either as a result of natural disaster or social status. The foundation accepts private and public funding resources, which are used to assist people in need of proper health care and/or educational services, adequate food, clothing and/or shelter.
Last year the couple held a benefit concert in New Orleans that marked the return of the concert industry to the city. As a result of concert proceeds and other donations, the foundation donated $1 million directly to the Community Initiative Foundation in Baton Rouge, La., which runs child and young adult art therapy programs at the Renaissance Camp, the largest trailer city in Baton Rouge.
