Sonny Simmons Dies

Cecil "Sonny" Simmons, 75, died at the Veterans medical Center in Nashville July 29th after a long illness.

Simmons was an original organizer of the Gospel Music Association and opened Gospel music agency Century II Promotions in the mid-’70s. He also produced the "Music City Special" television show.

Simmons later added a country division to his agency and worked with Dolly Parton, Alabama, Jerry Reed, J.D. Sumner, The Oak Ridge Boys and Garth Brooks, among thousands of others. He was also a member of several country music associations and was the recipient of the Christian Country Music Association’s Pioneer award in 2002.

Funeral services are to be held Thursday, August 2nd, at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Nashville.
