Ray Davies No Show Frees Suspect

Armed robbery and aggravated assault charges were dropped for the second time against Jerome Barra when Ray Davies failed to show up in a New Orleans court July 26th.

Barra was charged with shooting the lead singer and co-founder of The Kinks in the leg in 2004 after Davies chased a man that stole a friend’s purse.

Davies said he was given only a few days to make the trek from London while court records show the date was decided back in May, according to the Times-Picayune. Charges were first dropped after Davies was a no-show at a scheduled trial in 2005.

Although Barra admitted to being the driver of the car and said it was his cousin whodunit, Louisiana law allows getaway drivers to be charged for violent crimes.
