Everybody, which was released in May, is the band’s seventh full-length release and their first since 2003’s One Bedroom. The album was produced by Brian Paulson, who has worked with Slint and Wilco, and marks the first time the band’s teamed up with an outside producer instead of drummer John McEntire, who has handled production duties since the band’s self-titled debut in 1993.

Guitarist Archer Pruitt explained the change offered the band a chance to perform more as a unit without McEntire pulling split duties behind the board and the drumkit.

“We came together with a concentrated effort, as a band playing the songs with total commitment,” Archer said.

After a nearly a month of rehearsals, the band holed up at Key Club Studios in Michigan, a facility well known for its isolated location and lack of distractions.

“We knew we were there to make an important record. We ate and slept there and did little else,” the guitarist said.
