Doherty Left To Sweat Over Jail Term
Pete Doherty has been left to kick his heels and sweat it out for a month before learning if his latest round of drug offenses will land him in jail.
"What I have in mind is to adjourn this matter to assess his motivation. What I have in mind is a community order or prison," District Judge Davinder Lachlar told the West London Magistrates’ Court on August 7th.
The Babyshambles frontman and occasional boyfriend of supermodel Kate Moss pleaded guilty to driving illegally while in possession of crack, heroin, ketamine and cannabis at a July 3rd hearing at the same court, although he angered Judge Lachlar by turning up two hours late.
On that occasion, she adjourned court until August 7th for sentencing and gave him until then to show he’s serious about beating his drug problems.
"If you go to this place to have detox and take advantage of it, then we will see what sentence is appropriate when you next come," she told the troubled singer. "But if you do not, I can tell you now that you will go into custody."
Although Doherty lawyer Sean Curran told the court his client has been on a detox program and "presents himself certainly looking a lot better" since his appearance last month Judge Lachlar remained determined to take more time.
The case is a result of a May 5th incident when Doherty was arrested after his Jaguar was stopped by police officers in Kensington High Street, west London.
