No Mickey Mouse Metal
Metal band Machine Head will not be playing on Disney property any time in the future, but it now looks like the same is true for any heavy metal act playing on Disney property – including two House of Blues clubs.
Disney has removed heavy metal from the itineraries of the House of Blues Anaheim and HoB Orlando (two properties on Disney turf), according to the Los Angeles Times.
Machine Head had said as much in a recent statement when the band was cut from the Orlando gig. Although the House of Blues chain is owned by Live Nation, the two HoBs are on land owned by Disney Properties. The band claimed the Mouse pressured heavy metal acts off of the venues’ rosters.
First there was the Anaheim gig, which the band claimed was removed from the venue’s calendar at the last second. Scrapping the Orlando gig was in "retaliation" for making the Anaheim cancellation public.
People in Machine Head’s camp were either unwilling to comment or unaware of the incident when Pollstar contacted them. However, Live Nation spokesman John Vlautin did release a statement to the Times.
"House of Blues offers a range of entertainment to match the audience at our venues," Vlautin said. "It was determined that the mix of entertainment at our two Disney locations should be different from our other venues."
Disney gave the paper a statement that didn’t clear up the matter, saying "the House of Blues will provide a mix of entertainment for guests visiting Disney Resorts."
