Brooks will perform at the arena November 14 for employees of Wal-Mart as a thank you to the company. The retail giant is the exclusive outlet for his upcoming CD/DVD release, The Ultimate Hits, which goes on sale November 6.

The singer explained the concert, as well as the choice of venue, in a statement.

“Several months ago, we’d announced that we would perform a thank you concert for our friends at Wal-Mart. They suggested either Fayetteville [Ark.] or Kansas City.”

Brooks went on to say AEG offered the Sprint Center as a possible venue for the show.

“We were thrilled since this allowed us the opportunity to make this an even bigger party by opening up the concert to the public.”

An official announcement about ticket sales is expected today.

Sprint Center’s Shani Tate Ross told The Kansas City Star even though Brooks wants the show opened to fans, there are still details to be worked out.

“Garth is adamant that tickets be made available to his fans,” Ross said. “One reason ticket prices and procedures have not been made available yet is because everything is subject to change. His camp can verify that, but it’s my understanding that there are not presale opportunities for this show.”

Neither Brooks’ camp nor the venue would confirm the rumor that the singer will actually be performing several shows at the venue, which will be recorded for a TV special.
