Penguins Arena Plan Unveiled
Pittsburgh Penguins officials unveiled a plan November 13th for an 18,500-seat arena to replace Mellon Arena as part of a $290 million project.
The arena, designed by HOK Sport, will feature amenities including a signature glass atrium, outdoor plaza, spacious concourses, wider and more comfortable seats, a high-definition video scoreboard and a 500-space parking garage, according to the city’s Post-Gazette.
The master plan for the arena will be discussed by the planning commission November 27th, followed by a December 11th public hearing.
The project is expected to break ground next spring with a goal of completion by the 2010-11 hockey season.
