ASS began its musical journey in 1994, when members Christina Marrs and Guy Forsyth met Wammo at an impromptu, all-night sing-along at the Dabbs Hotel in Llano, Texas.

Upon returning to Austin, the trio called upon their musically like-minded friends to get together for club dates and busking along the city’s Guadalupe Street (which is nicknamed Asylum Street), covering songs by a wide range of artists, including Prince, Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Beastie Boys, The B-52’s, Black Flag, Louis Armstrong, Bessie Smith, Harry Nilsson, The Jazz Butcher, Violent Femmes, George Jones, Nirvana, Nina Simone, Nine Inch Nails, Otis Redding, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and Johnny Cash.

“What? And Give Up Show Biz?” draws on the band’s blend of old time string band virtuosity, four part vocal harmonies, inventive arrangements, vaudeville panache and razor sharp wit, not to mention its penchant for adult humor, frank discussions of sexuality, drug use and/or rock and roll.
