Big Fest In A Small Town
A small town in British Columbia could become the future home to a large-scale summer music festival if organizers can get the government behind the idea.
Shane Bourbonnais, president of touring and business development for Live Nation Canada, lives in the town of Pemberton, and recently proposed the idea for the concert at a town meeting, the Whistler Question reported.
While the village of Pemberton may be lacking in population, there’s plenty of space in the valley surrounding it. The town is also just north of the world-famous Whistler Blackcomb mountain resort.
"The community really wants to see this move forward," Bourbonnais told the Question.
But the proposal is still in its earliest stages and budget and logistical issues would need to be considered before Live Nation could even begin to devise a festival lineup, the paper said.
One issue could be transportation. Traffic problems could arise on the mainly two-lane highway that winds through mountains leading to the town, which might limit the numbers for such an event.
"It’s a great idea, but is the Ministry of Transportation going to let us bring people down that small road?" Bourbonnais said. "That’s one of the key variables if we’re going to be able to move forward or not."
Pollstar’s attempts to reach Bourbonnais were unsuccessful at press time.
