Promoter Wins Plies Suit
Patrick Monfiston, an Alabama promoter who filed suit – and won – against a hip-hop artist for pulling a no-show has a few words of advice for other performers out there.
"Don’t allow yourself to be booked in Montgomery if you don’t plan to do the show," the P Entertainment Promotions head told the Montgomery Advertiser. "We’re not going to sit back and let you do us any kind of way."
Monfiston filed suit against Plies (real name: Algernod Lanier Washington) and his manager, David Gay, claiming breach of contract and slander after Washington failed to show for a gig in the city July 8th.
The crowd broke into a fight upon hearing that Plies had canceled, causing about $4,000 in damages to the venue, according to the Advertiser, and Monfiston lost the $7,000 he spent to book the artist and advertise for the show.
And to add insult to injury, following the cancellation, the artist reportedly made comments about the promoter and claimed in a radio interview that he hadn’t been paid to do the show.
When Plies and Gay later failed to show up for proceedings at Montgomery County Circuit Court, Monfiston was awarded damages to cover the venue repairs and his booking and advertising costs, the Advertiser reported.
