AEG To Build Qualcomm Venue
AEG Live continues to make significant in-roads in San Diego with a reported 13,000-capacity outdoor venue in the works near Qualcomm Stadium.
AEG officially entered the San Diego market in July when it announced Viejas Entertainment vets Steve Redfearn and John Wojas would be opening up an AEG office in the city. Redfearn, a former Qualcomm Stadium advisory board member, told the Union-Tribune a venue near Qualcomm will add income for the city.
AEG has entered into a three-year agreement with the stadium to stage an annual outdoor concert series on the site of the San Diego Chargers’ former practice filed, the paper said. The venue, AEG Live Concerts on the Green, would be the third largest in the SD area.
"The deal came together very easily, and we anticipate total net revenues to be about $500,000 a year for the city," Qualcomm Stadium GM Erik Stover told the Tribune. "AEG is being very aggressive, nationwide, to compete with Live Nation, and we’re happy to participate in that."
An AEG spokesman was unavailable to comment at press time.
