Anschutz Eyeing Metro

Philip Anschutz is reportedly bidding on another daily newspaper, the Metro in New York City.

The Boston Phoenix reported that Anschutz’s company is looking into the publication, which would add to the billionaire’s cache of newspapers in cities like San Francisco and Baltimore.

Metro International S.A., which publishes free newspapers worldwide, put its three U.S. properties, including the New York paper, on the auction block, an executive briefed on the deal told the Boston Globe.

The papers have been a reported drag on the company’s bottom line for years, the paper said.
