New Blues In Boston
House of Blues is returning to its roots following a recent deal with a Boston club owner.
The chain is set to open a 2,500-capacity location in the city later this year, a Live Nation spokesman told Pollstar.
The Lyons Group, which has operated a handful of clubs on the city’s Landsdowne Street over the years, began renovating some of those facilities last October in efforts to develop a larger complex called the Landsdowne Street Music Hall. However, the development was sidelined when the group’s head, Patrick Lyons, agreed to lease the space to HoB instead.
"We feel very comfortable with them taking over this asset that’s so near and dear to our hearts," Lyons told the Boston Globe. "The only thing that has changed is in place of a sign that says Lansdowne Music Hall, it will say House of Blues."
Lyons, a co-founder of the original House of Blues location at Harvard Square in nearby Cambridge, told the paper that although the club will operate under a different name, the Lyons Group is confident in HoB’s ability to bring more big-name acts to Beantown.
Lyons will continue to oversee the design and construction of the $14 million complex, which is also set to feature a restaurant, lounge and VIP boxes, according to the Globe, and HoB will book and operate the club upon its completion.
The Landsdowne Street development is only the latest Lyons Group property to come under Live Nation control. In December, the company partnered with Boston pub owner Joe Dunne to purchase Lyons’ 653-capacity Paradise Rock Club.
