Hancock Gets Grammy Boost

Herbie Hancock not only walked away from the February 10th Grammy Awards with the hardware for best album, but with a powerful bump in record sales in the week following the broadcast.

His surprise win for River: The Joni Letters provided the ultimate promotional push for the disc, which leapt to No. 5 from No. 159 on Nielsen SoundScan’s current album charts for the week ending February 17th.

More impressively, the 53,812 units sold that week nearly doubled the total of the album’s previous sales to date.

Grammy winner Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black jumped from No. 54 to No. 2. Grammy performer Alicia Keys’ As I Am repeated as the No. 3 album of the week, but saw a 36 percent increase.

A Grammy-nominated music compilation was No. 4.
