Acapulco Becomes Tour Stop
Tourists and jet setters alike will soon have another reason to visit Acapulco, Mexico, and stay a while longer – namely a new concert and events complex.
The 4,000-capacity Foro Imperial theatre, part of the SMG-managed Mundo Imperial complex currently under construction, will host its first public open house March 16-17 and show off an impressive lighting display, according to GM Aran Rush.
"We do have a front façade with LED lighting that’s approximately 350 feet by 65 feet," Rush told Pollstar. "It’s really focused on the first impression and creating the mood for the evening."
The display, designed by Mexico City’s Moyao Architects and installed by 1211 Lighting, includes more than 165,000 LEDs, which create a ripple effect. The lights can be seen doing their HERE.
The 355,000-square-foot facility is the first of its kind for Acapulco and will host concerts and family shows, sporting events, plays and conventions. The facility will also have an 800-room hotel, and a promenade with retail shops, restaurants and a spa.
Rush said there are plans to host about 60 events after Mundo Imperial’s grand opening in November. Meanwhile, the excitement is growing.
"This is going to put Acapulco on the entertainment map. It’s always been a destination but never a stop," Rush said. "There are stars here every weekend but this really gives everyone another reason to come back."
