Bowery In New Jersey

The principals of The Bowery Presents have joined forces with Andy Feltz and, under the name Montclair Entertainment, have announced they will reopen the Wellmont Theatre in Montclair, N.J., this fall.

The Wellmont’s stage has been hiding behind a movie screen since the early ’80s, according to New Jersey’s Star-Ledger, and is well-preserved.

The 2,000-capacity venue will be wired for Internet, TV and radio broadcasts and former MSG Entertainment exec Anthony Makes will be the talent buyer, according to a statement.

Montclair Entertainment was formed in September. Feltz is the former longtime general manager for the Beacon Theatre in New York City.

This will be the first New Jersey venue managed and operated by the principals of Bowery Presents. Bowery Presents partner Michael Swier is at the forefront of the efforts to resurrect the Wellmont, which opened in 1922 and closed as a triplex in 2006. Brother Brian Swier is reportedly part of the architectural team.
