Petty’s Mudcrutch

Before Tom Petty had the Heartbreakers, he was a part of Mudcrutch. And the rock band that never quite made it is reuniting for a string of dates in April to celebrate the release of its self-titled debut album, more than 30 years after forming.

Petty, along with guitarist Tom Leadon, drummer Randall Marsh and Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench and guitarist Mike Campbell, kick off the tour April 12th in Malibu, Calif., and end it with four dates at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, Calif., April 25th, 26th, 28th and 29th.

After the rock group gained a decent following in Florida in the early ’70s, it packed up for California but split after just one single, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Petty, Tench and Campbell then formed the Heartbreakers with drummer Stan Lynch and bassist Ron Blair.

Mudcrutch is set for release April 29th.
