Bailey Rae Devastated By Husband’s Death
Soul star Corinne Bailey Rae was said to have been left "devastated" by the death of her husband from a suspected drug overdose.
Police found Jason Rae, a 31-year-old saxophonist with funk group Haggis Horns, dead at a flat in the Hyde Park area of Leeds March 22.
The couple, which has been married since 2001, met while Corinne Bailey Rae was working at a Leeds jazz club.
West Yorkshire Police were waiting for toxicology test results after a post-mortem examination on Rae’s body proved inconclusive. An inquest is expected to be opened this week.
A 32-year-old man arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs has now been released on bail pending further inquiries.
"When I got married, I felt like I was older in my head," the Leeds-born singer said of her husband in a recent interview. "I knew Jason was the right one for a mixture of reasons. I really liked him, and I think that’s a good place to start from."
EMI, her record label, has issued a statement saying it offered its "sincere condolences" to the singer and her family during this tragic time.
Since releasing her self-titled album, which went to No. 1 in the U.K., she’s achieved critical acclaim, various awards, and three Grammy nominations.
