Amway & Bob Carr For Sale
The 17,500-capacity Amway Arena and the 2,400-capacity Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre in Orlando, Fla., are for sale, along with the surrounding land at the 26-acre Centroplex site, for $90 million, or about $80 per square foot.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, once the venues are sold, the proceeds will go toward the city’s three new downtown projects, which ring in at an estimated total of $1.1 billion.
Potential buyers of the Centroplex site could choose to keep the venues but most expect they would be demolished, according to the paper.
While the city waits out the real-estate market, the new buildings are being financed through a state loan pool at a low interest rate.
Construction on an events center is set to begin in August and an arts center in late 2009. The city is also hiring an architect to give the more than 70-year-old Citrus Bowl a makeover.
