No Gibson And TC Group Merger
The merger between Gibson Guitar and TC Group is not the foregone conclusion the original press announcement made it out to be.
In January, Gibson released a detailed statement about its expected merger with Denmark-based music technology firm TC Group. The latter’s CEO, Anders Fauerskov, would remain in Europe and serve as COO of the guitar company, and Gibson would grow to 5,000 employees worldwide.
TC Group develops amplifiers, speakers, digital processors, guitar pedals and other audio products. The deal was announced at NAMM 2008 in Anaheim, Calif., January 18th, and the Tennessean interviewed Gibson CEO Henry Juszkiewicz about the details.
Then, on April 10th, Gibson stated that the two companies "have discontinued discussions regarding a potential merger." The decision followed an "intensive effort" by both parties to consummate the deal within a targeted timeline, Gibson added.
There were no further details.
