LEA Arrangements On Ice

The committee that organises the annual Live Entertainment Awards is due to meet in Hamburg April 30 to discuss the arrangements for next year’s prize ceremony.

Although this year’s March 11 gathering was reportedly a well-attended success, the 30 or so committee members are likely to discuss which venue to use in 2009 and whether the event should fall in the same week as ILMC. Many German live music industry people hurried to the LEAs a day after returning from the London conference.

Having spent its first two years at Hamburg’s Fliegende Bauten, this year’s event was held in the much larger Colorline Arena. Worries that the 15,000-capacity arena would be too large proved to be unfounded as the venue was configured to provide about half that number with a more intimate party atmosphere.

The LEAs are a joint venture between weekly trade magazine Musikmarkt and the IDKV promoters association.
