The relationship between the two singers goes back to Clarkson’s “American Idol” days.

“Kelly chose me to come on to the show and sing ‘Does He Love You?’ with her,” McEntire said.

The singer explained that first encounter gave birth to a friendship founded on music and more.

“She’s from Burleson, Texas, the same place my husband’s from. She’s half my age, but we have a blast together. We have a lot of the same influences and likes. She’s a people person, so am I, and it’s just a lot of fun to hang out with her.”

McEntire and Clarkson are part of a group of Southern girlfriends in Los Angeles who haunt the local restaurant scene (and the occasional karaoke club) and take road trips together.

The track they recorded together for McEntire’s album Duets, “Because of You,” was written by Clarkson when she was 16. It was the first single from the album and became McEntire’s fastest climbing song since 1998’s “Forever Love.”
