Slightly Stoopid Tours (To Put It Blunt-ly)
For more than a decade, Kyle McDonald, Miles Doughty and the rest of Slightly Stoopid have been quietly building a solid fan base and touring in larger venues each year. What began as a project that leaned toward modern surf/SoCal music (a la Jack Johnson and Sublime) has become a panoramic repertoire of jam music, reggae, world and a bunch of other genres that don’t harsh the mellow.
The methodical career building has resulted in Stoopid’s first amphitheatre tour with plenty of California dates as well as ones in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Atlanta and Boca Raton. There are more than two-dozen stops across North America between May 31st and September 6th, when the band returns to its hometown of San Diego.
Coming along for the ride is SoCal band Pepper, which can amass a crowd of admirers on its own, as well as Sly & Robbie.
If the name doesn’t give it away, Slightly Stoopid is all about partying. The tour is called the “Tailgate 2008 Summer Tour” and fans are known as Stoopid Heads. The band’s 10th release, a collection of odds and ends, is Slightly Not Stoned Enough to Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid.
“The Tailgate tour is going to be a party tour, y’know what I mean?” Miles Doughty said (in a statement, no less, y’know?) “It’s going to be a good time. … You can party every day of the week, but getting those jams together is where it’s going to be insane!”
