Skipper’s Skipper To Retire

Vince McGilvra, co-owner of Skipper’s Smokehouse in Tampa Bay, Fla., notified friends and associates May 29th that he is retiring at the end of June.

A longtime fixture on the Florida music scene, McGilvra sent the announcement via e-mail, according to Creative Loafing Tampa, in which he described his 28 years as "Head Mullet" of the 700-capacity club.

Marketing duties at Skipper’s will be taken over by McGilvra friend and local guitarist Mark Warren, according to McGilvra’s e-mail. "In addition to hanging out at Skipper’s & traveling with my wife, I intend to spend time in my garden getting physically & spiritually ready for the for rest of my life."

McGilvra said he will retain his 50 percent ownership stake in Skipper’s but will cease day-to-day management duties.
