AEG Gets Rose Quarter

AEG will replace Global Spectrum as the facility operator for Rose Quarter in Portland, Ore., in July.

The announcement comes a year after the NBA’s Trail Blazers made the unusual decision of renewing Global Spectrum’s contract for only 12 months.

Global Spectrum beat out AEG for the short-term contract. At the time, Vulcan Sports & Entertainment, which is owned by Paul Allen and oversees the Trail Blazers, considered dropping Global Spectrum for AEG, according to the Oregonian. Vulcan’s CEO is Tod Leiweke, brother of AEG President Tim Leiweke.

The Rose Quarter is composed of the 20,000-capacity Rose Garden Arena and 12,888-capacity Memorial Coliseum.

An AEG spokesman was unavailable at press time for further information.
