Visa Flap Elicits Spit-take From State Department Spokesman
Amongst such weighty topics as Iran, Chinese ammunition being used in Afghanistan and the U.S. Ambassador to Albania, the conversation turned to Boy George, who has been denied a visa for a summer tour.
Deputy spokesman Tom Casey, who was apparently taken by surprise when a reporter asked, “What does the U.S. government have against Boy George?,” choked on his water before answering.
After explaining that visa records are confidential and noting “there are often difficulties for individuals who either are currently subject to criminal charges or may have criminal records,” Casey referenced the title of one of Culture Club’s hits and then quickly moved on to more serious matters involving an alleged arms sales cover up by the U.S. Ambassador to Albania.
