PBS’s Charlie Rose took Vanity Fair chief Graydon Carter and Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wanner by surprise during a recent interview: "What’s this story that Conde Nast wants to buy Rolling Stone?"

Conde Nast is the publishing group that owns Vanity Fair, and Jann Wenner is, well, Jann Wenner.

Gawker.com reports that Carter’s face took on an expression of "sheer terror" followed by lots of "forced laughter and jabbering between the guests."

Apparently, none of the chatter included a complete denial.
