Rock In Rio Is Big In Madrid
Nearly 300,000 people turned up to the first Rock In Rio In Madrid, Channel 2’s ratings soared as it screened live footage, and El País – Spain’s biggest newspaper – was declaring it a huge success even before it reached the halfway point.
"I don’t know the exact figures for each day but I do know The Police, Alejandro Sanz and Shakira had huge crowds," Gay Mercader from Live Nation-Gamerco told Pollstar two days after the second leg of the festival finished.
"Ticket sales for the five days are likely to be around 290,000, but it’s too soon to give an exact figure."
Rock In Rio In Madrid, like Rock In Rio In Lisbon, is split into two legs and is spread across two weekends.
The acts appearing June 27-28 or July 4-6 included The Police, Sanz, Jamiroquai, James Morrison, Lenny Kravitz, Tokio Hotel, Amy Winehouse, Alanis Morissette and Neil Young.
