Rheinkultur Happy With 140,000
Festival organiser Holger Jan Schmidt says more than 140,000 turned up to this year’s Rheinkultur Festival in Germany, well down on last year’s 25th-anniversary crowd of about 200,000 but a satisfying result just the same.
"Last year was an exceptional event but 140,000 would be a decent average for us," he explained.
The only time the crowd has really suffered in the last 10 years was in 2006, when the free-entry festival in an amusement park on the banks of the River Rhine at Bonn dropped closer to 100,000 due to Germany hosting the World Cup soccer finals.
The acts playing across the five stages at the Rheinaue park July 5 included Ben Folds, Anti-Flag, Tomte, The Futureheads, Trashmonkeys, Air Traffic and Roman Fischer.
