Gospel’s Michael Cook Dies

Michael Cook, 46, a member of the Mighty Clouds of Joy gospel group for 24 years, died of a heart attack July 18.

The group, formed in 1960 in Los Angeles, has won multiple Grammys and is a member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

The group, composed of Cook, original members Joe Ligon and Richard Wallace, Ron Staples and Johnny Valentine, was the first gospel act to perform on "Soul Train" and to integrate choreography into its shows.
