Rain Can’t Dampen Nuke

Bad weather in the two weeks leading up to the event cut Nuke Festival’s crowd by 2,500 people per day, although event organizer MusicNet was happy the numbers held up so well.

The two-day crowd at St. Poelten, regarded as the capital of south Austria, still included a little more than 30,000 people.

Matters would certainly have been worse on the old site at Pielachtal (90 minutes west of Vienna), where a 2005 downpour turned the ground to mud and prompted the event to move.

Those who weren’t turned off by the weather were rewarded as the clouds cleared and the July 18-19 temperatures never dropped below 20°C (68°F).

The acts enjoying sunshine after the rain included Lenny Kravitz, Söhne Mannheims, Gentleman, Morcheeba, Eddy Grant, The Chemical Brothers, Fettes Brot, and Stereo MCs.
