The performance marks the first time a Western artist has played in Iran since the country’s 1979 revolution.

“The concert is scheduled to be held in the last week of November at Azadi Indoor Stadium which has a total capacity of 12,000 seats,” Majid Roquani, the head of the PR office of the Taraneh Sharqui Cultural and Artistic Company, told Iran Daily.

The concert is also unusual because Western pop songs with lyrics are banned by the government. Instrumental versions are sometimes played by official state radio.

Iranian musicians are also required to obtain permission before recording and performing and to submit lyrics for approval.

De Burgh is expected to perform a solo set, as well as a set with Arian. The singer recently recorded a version of his song “The Words I Love You” with the band, which was premiered during a news conference in Tehran in May.
