Austin quintet What Made Milwaukee Famous is out supporting sophomore release What Doesn’t Kill Us, which was released in March and features the band’s blend of indie rock, ’70s power pop and modern rock radio.

Wild Sweet Orange is touring behind its debut, We Have Cause To Be Uneasy, which was released July 29 on Canvasback Music and took the band two years to complete.

Frontman Preston Lovinggood explained the album is a document of the band’s progress from its first sessions in Birmingham, Ala., to its most recent work in Austin with producer Mike McCarthy (Spoon, And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Patty Griffin).

“The story of the record is the story of Wild Sweet Orange,” he said. “It was a humbling and sometimes tiresome experience, like, ‘Oh man, are we ever gonna get this record out?’ But we also knew that these songs were good enough and if we worked hard enough, they’d take us to where we wanted to be.”

The singer credits some of the band’s growth to lots of touring while the album was being completed.

“It’s like we’ve been in the belly of the whale for the past three or four years and now we’ve finally been spit out. We’re taking all of our experiences and bringing them onstage every night.”
