Mouskouri Bows Out In Athens

Internationally famous Greek singer Nana Mouskouri closed out her three-year world tour and her performing career in Athens July 23.

The 73-year-old, who has sold 300 million records worldwide, planned the dates and the farewell performance at Herodes Atticus Theatre, at the foot of the Acropolis, before announcing her retirement from 50 years of live work.

She said she decided to stop performing because she feared singing in a way "which will disappoint a lot of people," but couldn’t quit before doing one last lap of the world to say thank you to her fans.

Her final audience included Greek Prime Minister Dr. Kostas Karamanlis and the mayors of Berlin, Paris and Luxembourg.
