Muhly kicks off his 12-city sojourn August 15 at Triple Door in Seattle and will hit the final beat August 28 at Lakeshore Theater in Chicago.

Other stops include Aladdin Theater in Portland, Ore. (August 15), Swedish American Hall in San Francisco (August 18), Birchmere in Alexandria, Va. (August 21), Le Poisson Rouge in New York City (August 23) and Danforth Music Hall in Toronto (August 27).

Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com.

Muhly, who has worked with Phillip Glass as well as Rufus Wainwright, Björk, Antony (of Antony and the Johnsons) and others, will be accompanied on the road by fellow Vermont-to-New-York transplants, musicians and collaborators, Thomas Bartlett (aka Doveman) and Sam Amidon.

Rather than waste time trying to tell you what to expect at each show, we’ll just let you read the description in the release.

“The performances will feature music from each of the three, as well as some sneak previews of future collaborative schemes.

“Sam will perform a set of folk ballads interspersed with the occasional Melville reading and some liturgical dance, accompanied by Thomas, with guest plinks by Nico.

“He will then pass the microphone to Thomas, who will whisper some lamp-rock, gently expiring into the microphone, while Sam and Nico strum and plink and generally try to liven things up.

“Finally, Nico will perform a selection of his compositions, with help from Sam, Thomas and violist extraordinaire Nadia Sirota, culminating in ‘The Only Tune,’ a piece Nico wrote for Sam and that he, Sam, Thomas and Nadia premiered last year at Carnegie Hall.”

Phew! That sounds exhausting, but fun!
