Larry Doesn’t Rumble At Sturgis

This year’s Sturgis Bike Week in South Dakota – the largest gathering of motorcycle riders in North America – was hampered by rain and lightning, which put a damper on some of the live performances.

Glencoe officials canceled John Fogerty’s August 5 show at the Glencoe Amphitheatre because of a storm and, according to the Rapid City Journal, as many as three people at a motorcycle concert camp east of Sturgis were injured by lightning.

But that’s not all. Larry The Cable Guy pulled out of his August 5 support slot because the promoter did not have the funds to cover the performance, manager J.P. Williams told Pollstar.

Larry’s camp got word there was a lack of funding as he was traveling into the city and they turned around, Williams said. The funding issue may or may not have been due to the soggy conditions but one thing was certain: an offer of a check was quickly turned down.

Although Pollstar heard rumblings of other problems, nothing could be confirmed at press time.  Pollstar also heard rumblings that the artists who performed had a great time.
