The Florida-based alternative-rock quintet has traveled the width and breadth of this land with the Vans Warped Tour and, up through late 2007, with Motion City Soundtrack. There have been excursions with Story of the Year and a Tooth & Nail compilation tour.

But with the band’s first foray into major-label territory, it’s about to embark on a full-fledged headlining jaunt starting in October. Anberlin is expected to release New Surrender on Universal Republic September 30 after several years at Tooth & Nail. Then I’s off to Wharehouse Live in Houston October 2 then … well, it’s a doozy.

San Antonio, Callas, Oklahoma City, Salt Lake City, Philadelphia, Norfolk, Charlotte … there are 24 domestic headlining gigs in all, including some House of Blues stops. Then it’s off to the U.K. and Ireland in November.

Anberlin is an alternative rock act born from the ashes of a Christian-rock group called SaGoh, but the current band has little to do with that branding. SaGoh split up after selling 1,300 units. Anberlin, on the other hand, has a far wider fan base and has sold 400,000 units, with Surrender expected to increase that number drastically.

“Anberlin” was apparently a name vocalist Stephen Christian wanted to name his daughter, although another story says he wanted to visit several cities … and Berlin was one of them.
