Bocelli’s $3.27M Record

Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli hit the record books again after his Acer Arena show in Sydney grossed A$3.27 million (US$2.8 million). It is the highest ticket sales gross ever in Australia, according to a statement from the arena.

Serendipity Entertainment promoted the August 24 show, which attracted an estimated 13,000 fans.

“To be associated with such a success on your very first touring venture is more than a dream come true,” said Serendipity head Craig McMahon, whose company is promoting the singer’s Australian tour – the promoter’s first in Australia.

Bocelli’s previous record in the country, a $2.94 million gross, held up until 2004.

Tim Worton, group director of arenas at AEG Ogden, which operates Acer Arena, said the show is further evidence of a strong live market despite trying economic conditions.
