Resort Near Rothbury Closes

The financially strapped Double JJ Ranch, Waterpark and Golf Resort in Rothbury, Mich., which hosted this year’s Rothbury festival, has suspended its daily operations in anticipation of the resort being sold at auction in early October.

The 2,000-acre western-themed destination in southern Oceana county closed September 3, displacing about 150 year-round employees. Its owners filed Chapter 11 federal bankruptcy protection in July.

The inaugural Rothbury music festival attracted about 40,000 people just weeks before the Double JJ filed. The bankruptcy trustee estimates the resort’s value at $33 million while its debts are at least $22.3 million.
