Madge Grosses £65M

European tour producer John Giddings said he hasn’t had chance to total up the box-office gross from Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet” shows but reckons newspaper estimates of £65 million are probably close to the mark.

He said all 17 shows sold out – “although one or two promoters may have had an empty at the back” – including the territories where she was making her first visit.

The final three shows were all record-breakers, as Richard Hoermann of Vienna-based Austrian Entertainment GmbH sold 40,000 tickets for the Sept. 25 show at Budva Jaz Beach, the first time the 50-year-old pop diva has appeared in Montenegro.

A couple of days earlier, he shifted 60,000 tickets for Madge’s performance at Vienna’s Danube Island. The box office took more than $8 million and was one of the highest-grossing dates on the tour.

The final show in Athens, a co-promotion between Live Nation and Didi Music, which was Madonna’s first visit to Greece, shifted 75,000 tickets.
