Orlando’s Magic Beacon

The Orlando Magic basketball team unveiled renderings of its new, 19,000-capacity arena Oct. 8 featuring a lighted tower that will be visible across the Florida city.

“In essence, it’s our answer to the Empire State Building in Orlando,” Magic chief operating officer Alex Martins told the Orlando Sentinel.

The beacon – a 150-foot tower in a stainless-steel mesh – will act as the arena’s main entryway and be illuminated by 200 LEDs that will change color according to the events, the Sentinel reported. A spire will reach 188 feet and be lit by spotlights.

“For Magic game nights, it could be illuminated blue. For [arena football’s] Predators game nights, it could be illuminated red. For St. Patrick’s Day, it could be illuminated green,” Martins told the paper. “We really wanted to create this dynamic element for the tower.”

Architect HOK Sport released details of the arena, including an open-air “party deck” and a sky bar atop the building, the paper said. Construction is under way.
