Cardiff Launches A Sub

Cardiff’s new 800-capacity live music venue is expected to open in the middle of next month.

Sub 29, which is being launched by a new company called Sub Live Ltd., is expected to fill the gap left by The Coal Exchange, which is now being turned into an office block.

The new venue is in the Millennium Plaza complex on Wood Street, with close links to rail and bus networks.

“There is a fantastic live music audience in and around Cardiff but only a handful of venues. Since the demise of The Coal Exchange, Cardiff has not had a venue of this size at all,” said Sub 29’s Steve Bines. “Our aim is to finally offer a venue suitable for the tours that continually leave Cardiff off their schedules and, by working closely with both local and national promoters, we are confident that we can put Cardiff firmly on the map.”

The location of SUB29 will also allow greater numbers to experience live music in Cardiff. With the venue guaranteeing that shows will finish in time for last trains and buses, Sub 29 aims to attract a greater audience from outside the city.
