Rudy Ray Moore Dies

Comedian Rudy Ray Moore, 81, whose alter ego Dolemite became the inspiration for three generations of comics, died from apparent complications from diabetes in Akron, Ohio, Oct. 20.

Moore attained cult status as a pioneer of racy inner-city and ghetto humor. Along with his recordings, he starred in and produced several 1970s “Blaxploitation” films.

A 1972 album, Dolemite For President, is expected to be re-released on election day, Nov. 4.

It has never been issued on CD and includes previously unreleased tracks from Moore performances.

Excerpts of Moore’s recordings are heard on popular rap records by artists including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes.
