Wrestling Agent Slams Promoters
An agent who books former professional wrestlers has come out against several West Virginia promoters for failing to pay up for shows.
Through his Atlanta-based Show Business, Bill Behrens books performers like Kevin Nash, whom Behrens claims was recently falsely promoted for an independent show in the state, according to the Charleston Daily Mail.
Nash posted on his Web site that a scheduled appearance at the Craig Civic Center in Kingwood was canceled because of lack of payment.
“There are promoters that make promises and fail to deliver, and they keep on promoting,” Behrens said. “That’s a pet peeve. I can’t understand how someone goes through life like that.”
Damien Lee, who promoted the Kingwood show, told the paper he’d sent the check in the mail but Nash never received it. Lee also claimed the show wasn’t falsely advertised because Nash himself had promoted it online and through radio appearances.
Behrens also singled out promoter Dennis Richardson for a show he’d promoted featuring former WWE stars Chris Masters, the Sandman and two female wrestlers Behrens books, the Daily Mail reported. Apparently, Richardson owed thousands to the wrestlers following the event.
In his blog on MySpace, Richardson reportedly admitted to owing money to wrestlers and fans and said he was retiring from wrestling.
“Most promoters will not screw up in front of the wrestler,” Behrens told the paper. “It takes a fairly gutsy guy not to pay up. Sometimes you’ll get a nice wrestler like Chris Masters, though he’s as big as a building, he won’t lose his temper and punch you in the face.”
