Willie Nelson Helps Close Backyard Amphitheatre
The buzz is about whether the outdoor live music venue Backyard Amphitheatre in Bee Cave might reopen at a different location.
Fans were serenaded until early Monday by musicians including Willie Nelson, Jimmie Vaughan, Kelly Willis and Grupo Fantasma.
The live oaks-shaded complex opened in 1993 in Bee Cave, a town of 1,700 located about 15 miles west of Austin. Several thousand people turned out for the final concert Sunday night.
Owner Tim O’Connor in April announced he was closing the Backyard Amphitheatre because of expanding development in the area. O’Connor has said he would like to open a new venture by 2010 at a different site.
A black flag, with the Backyard Amphitheatre’s opening and closing dates, was flown during Sunday night’s event.
