Buffett’s ‘Captain Tony’ Dies

Anthony Tarracino, the legendary bar owner and former Key West Mayor immortalized in Jimmy Buffett’s “Captain Tony’s Saloon,” died Nov. 1 at age 92.

Tarracino died after being hospitalized for about a week with a heart and lung condition, said his wife of 38 years, Marty Tarracino.

He was a charter boat captain who married four times, fathered 13 children, served as mayor of Key West, Fla., from 1989-91 and is remembered for colorful stories and exploits, including the failed Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba.

Buffett, a longtime friend, sang about Tarracino in the song “Last Mango In Paris.”
