Happy Days For Soccer

Times have changed for soccer in the U.S., with a Major League Soccer semifinal game between the Houston Dynamo and the New York Red Bulls expected to draw more than 20,000 at Robertson Stadium Nov. 9.

The game that “The Simpsons” spoofed so convincingly with the tagline “High Kicking! Low Scoring! And Ties? You Bet!” is seeing an upsurge, as noted in the Houston Chronicle.

Next year, Microsoft billionaire Paul Allen is expected to launch his Seattle Sounders soccer team. Arthur Blank, owner of the Atlanta Falcons and Spanish league club FC Barcelona (Miami) also wants to be part of the action, the Chronicle noted.
